This means that these tools are ready to carve with out of the box. We recommend the sharpened sets for beginner carvers who don't have sharpening experience because: 1. Beginners can get started carving right away 2. When you're just starting out, sharpening curved gouges can be difficult. The pre-sharpened tools will give beginners a sharpening template to learn from. The factory sharpened sets are the same profiles and made from the same high quality material.
